Did you know… that there is overwhelming evidence that people who eat a diet that is naturally rich in dietary fibre have less risk of developing some cancers, especially bowel cancer, less risk of heart disease and other serious problems like obesity and adult onset diabetes.
A diet that is naturally rich in fibre contains lots of fruit, vegetables and cereals and tends to have relatively low amounts of fat, saturated fat and meat protein. Many of the benefits of a naturally fibre-rich diet may be due to these other reasons rather than just due to the fibre itself. Adding bran to a fatty diet which is low in fruit, vegetables and cereal grains will not produce the same benefits as eating more fibre-rich foods.
That’s the end of this week’s Dietary Fibre topic. Keep watching on Monday for a new topic!
